The "borrowed from the boys" menswear look is always in fashion and can be seen throughout the decades from Annie Hall to almost any street style maven you see on the blogosphere today. In my mind, the blazer, newsboy cap, or even the perfect trouser has nothing on the shirtdress! They can be found in a variety of fabrics, sleeve lengths and silhouettes so there's a shirtdress for any occasion (maybe except a wedding dress, but go ahead and prove me wrong!).
For a day at the office style your shirtdress with an appropriate jacket or trench coat and simple pumps. When you're ready for happy hour and a night out on the town, throw on a statement necklace and a pair of strappy sandals for a totally different look. In a perfect world I would keep an arsenal of different shirtdresses like the super casual Chambray western shirt dress and then also something a little dressier like the bebe Romantic shirtdress. I also suggest bringing one or two of your favorite belts while you're shopping for a shirtdress so you can see how it looks loose or form-fitting!
