What I wore in Paris

Count me among the people who firmly believe in the philosophy behind this famous Audrey Hepburn quote: Paris is always a good idea. I've visited the City of Lights too many times to count—starting as a 13-year-old foreign exchange student and most recently in April of this year—but when I got an opportunity to join my partner on his work trip in early October, of course I took it. (The free hotel room didn't hurt.) Now, while Paris certainly has its challenges—record-breaking heat earlier this summer, current political demonstrations—it more than makes up for it in cinematic views, exquisite light, rich culture, and the best shopping on the planet. We happened to be there during Fashion Week, so the people-watching was off the charts pretty much everywhere we went. And while I doubt I ended up in any street-style roundups, at least one of my outfits garnered several compliments from real-life Parisians. I'll take that as a win! Here's what I wore in Paris in October.

Day 1: plane outfit & Marais shopping

Of course the number-one rule of transatlantic travel is to adapt to the new time zone right away, so I didn't bother changing out of my plane outfit—although it was so warm, I had to remove one layer and tie it around my shoulders.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Toteme blazer (current version) | Old Navy tee | H&M sweatshirt (around neck) | Jamie Haller pants | Balenciaga city bag | New Balance 327 sneakers

Day 2: left bank wandering

The universe laughed at our plan to show up at Musée de l'Orangerie without tickets, but we salvaged the day by bopping around St. Germain, eating lunch at one of my favorite cafés, and doing more shopping.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Toteme blazer (current version) | Zara henley | old Ba&sh skirt (similar) | Balenciaga city bag | Birkenstock EVA Arizona sandals

Day 3: marché aux puces & more Marais wandering

In case you haven't figured it out by now, my two favorite things to do in Paris are 1) shop and 2) wander, not necessarily in that order. (My other favorite, in case you were wondering, is to sit outdoors at a café with a spritz and people-watch.) Highly recommend going to the flea market on a Sunday if you're around—it was next level, and I bought the bag I'm carrying here.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Zara top | Agolde Riley jeans | Massimo Dutti loafers

Day 4: day trip to Champagne

I took a break from shopping—unless you count the four bottles of Champagne I bought—and took a day trip to Reims. I did a tour of Tattinger in the morning, followed by an afternoon group tour to several smaller producers' tasting rooms outside of town. A kind gentleman in my group snapped this shot of me—not bad, although he unfortunately cut off my shoes!

OUTFIT DETAILS: Toteme blazer (current version) | Old Navy tee | H&M pants | Balenciaga city bag | Clarks Wallabees (not pictured)

Day 5: Musée des Arts Décoratifs & Rue St. Honoré shopping

With my usual photographer tied up with work, I started to get creative with shooting my outfits. This one happened with the help of a park bench and the 10-second timer. And by the way, this was the outfit that got all the compliments!

OUTFIT DETAILS: H&M sweatshirt | Zara skirt (sold out, sorry!) | Balenciaga city bag | Birkenstock EVA Arizona sandals

Day 6: Musée de l'Orangerie & feral shopping

Success! After waiting 45 minutes in the rain, I finally got into L'Orangerie and was so moved, I started crying. (I probably ended up in someone's TikTok as the random middle-aged woman sobbing at Monet paintings.) I celebrated with a croque monsieur for lunch (bad idea), followed by some feral department-store shopping, a favorite last-day activity.

OUTFIT DETAILS: old Nili Lotan for Target trench (on eBay) | Monoprix scarf | & Other Stories top (sold out) | Madewell pants | New Balance 327 sneakers

Au revoir, Paris—see you next year, hopefully! But the travel content isn't over yet...stay tuned for what I wore on the second half of our trip, in Amsterdam.
