Fall trends: corduroy

I wore a lot of corduroy in the '90s. In fact, I wore so much that I probably haven't worn much since. But like everything else from the '90s, it seems to be back in fashion, and while I'm passing on some things this time around—babydoll dresses and Doc Martens, I'm looking at you—corduroy is something that I feel like I can still pull off. The key is wearing pieces that don't feel too juvenile—think tailored rather than cute. Not only are there a ton of ways to wear it, but there are a bunch of bright, unexpected colors too. Here's what I'm loving for fall.

1. Remember a few years ago when colored skinny jeans were all the rage? I had wanted a red pair but couldn't find one with the right fit. I feel like these corduroy pants—in my favorite fit of Frame Denim—might be my second chance.

2. I am a huge fan of this style of hat—a cap with a brim—because it keeps out the sun and is quite flattering. This is also a great way to try the trend without committing to an entire piece of clothing (and the price isn't bad either).

3. I feel like I'm the only blogger on the planet who doesn't have the suede version of this jacket. It's a classic, and the fact that they've done it in corduroy makes it even more appealing to me. I'd love to see this in an even more unexpected color, like pale pink.

4. I used to have a navy corduroy blazer that never quite fit right (it has long since been donated to Goodwill), but this long, boyfriend-style silhouette from one of my favorite brands may be just right. The dark, rich color could go a little dressier too, if needed.

5. I hope that these pants are named after Jarvis Cocker, because that would be awesome. I love the unexpected color—they manage to capture a retro vibe but look totally modern at the same time.

6. Finding a corduroy dress that doesn't look like a child's jumper is a tall order, but this one comes across as flirty rather than Lolita-ish. The length is potentially concerning, but let's just hope the model is realllly tall.

7. Leave it to Forever 21 to come up with something I've never seen before: a corduroy puffer! This is probably one of the more chic puffer jackets I've ever seen—and one I might actually consider wearing—plus the price is right.

8. Topshop has all manner of corduroy this season, but one of my favorite pieces is this mustard-yellow skirt—after all, mustard yellow is the new millennial pink! I think this one would look great with black tights and boots.

I love corduroy. I have a feeling I might be getting too old for it but I keep seeing a lovely corduroy pinafore dress at work that I might treat my Daughter too :)

Thanks for sharing at Welcome To The Weekend Blog Hop Cheryl, I hope you're having a lovely week.
