On day two of Fashion Week...

...I went to seven shows, and then I ran all over Soho and the Meatpacking District for Fashion's Night Out. Reviews for the shows will be posted tomorrow and Sunday, as I am way too tired to write any now. As for FNO, I had an awesome time. Molton Brown had a very generous gift with purchase, which included a Hanky Panky thong that I got to personalize with crystals. At Space NK, I met Poppy King (of Lipstick Queen fame), who, herself, sold me on the Medieval lipstick. I ogled the $5,000 fur-collar camel jacket by Celine at Kirna Zabete (it is to die for). I discovered I can wear a size 4 at DKNY. Philip Crangi shucked oysters for me at the Crangi Family Project, and outside, I took a picture with Costello Tagliapietra (yep, that's it at right). I decided not to buy the $225 Proenza Schouler messenger bag at Jeffrey (that was hard to walk away from!). And then I hit a wall (figuratively), so my friends E, J & I made a pit stop in the West Village. Oh, and I drank. Lots. My one criticism is that certain boutiques were enforcing a guest list--isn't that contrary to the for-the-masses spirit of Fashion's Night Out? Also, maybe I could've used a bit more food. But a good time was had by all, and, believe it or not, I actually did some shopping this year. Did you?

Fashion's Night Out: the sequel

If you like to drink for free, ogle fashionable people, and not spend any money, good news: Fashion's Night Out is back! The official website is live with event listings, which means from now until September 10th, I will be inundated with pitches. Here's what's new and exciting: FNO is on a Friday night, which means you can drink all the champagne you want and not have to show up hung over at work the next day, and it's not just for New Yorkers anymore--this "global initiative" is now happening in countries around the world and in states all across this fine country of ours. To save you from wading through the rather extensive event listings, The Cut has helpfully compiled the most promising events of the evening. I'm getting drunk* just thinking about it.

For those of you who've always wanted to attend a runway show, I say start a fashion blog! Well, or you can purchase tickets to the Fashion's Night Out Fashion Show taking place at Lincoln Center on September 7th. The American Express presale is already sold out, but general public tickets go on sale Thursday, 8/19 for $25-$400. Unlike real fashion shows, I suspect this one will start on time and that people will actually sit in their assigned seats.

*I realize I sound like a big lush in this post, but to be honest, I spent last year's Fashion's Night Out drinking champagne at half the stores in Soho. Was it fun? Yes. Did I spend any money? No. Do I think anyone did? Doubtful. That said, the night was great fun, and I definitely plan on celebrating again this year.

Intended to shop
But drinking got in the way.
Sloppy in Soho.

So, how was Fashion's Night Out for you?
Cheryl Shops at New York Fashion Week
Starting tomorrow, it's all Fashion Week all the time here at Cheryl Shops--once again, I'll be covering the shows, and I'm happy to report that I've been invited to so many this time, I'm actually taking 3 days off of work. I am also enlisting the help of my friend Mina, who takes excellent photos, so expect to see some posts from her as well. Sales and all regular Cheryl Shops content will return the week after next. In the meantime, I'll be posting reviews when I can, but for real-time updates, please follow me on Twitter.

And, don't forget, Thursday night is Fashion's Night Out, which promises freebies, cocktails, entertainment, and all sorts of shopping fun. Do it--you don't want to disappoint Anna Wintour, do you?

Once you get home from shopping, come back tomorrow night for the start of my Fashion Week coverage!
Mark your calendars: Fashion's Night Out is September 10th
I will admit I was a bit skeptical of Fashion's Night Out--spearheaded by Vogue and CFDA, it's a worldwide event designed to promote consumer confidence and, well, get everybody to shop. And while it's probably going to take more than one night to save the fashion and retail industries, there's a ton of stuff going on, so why not take advantage of it? Basically, every women's clothing and accessory (and even beauty) store in the city is participating in the event, from the big department stores on down to the single-designer and indie boutiques. Most stores will have cocktails, DJs, and/or live bands; many have gifts with purchase or limited-edition merch; and a select few will feature appearances by the designers themselves. The entire rundown of events can be found here, and you can even make a little schedule for yourself. I plan on hitting Kirna Zabete, Opening Ceremony, Korres, Le Labo, and Julie Haus, where I'll be for her Spring 2010 presentation. Oh, and, by the way, if you like Hugh Jackman, he'll be at Jeffrey. For any updates to the schedule, I suggest following the Fashion's Night Out Twitter feed; Racked has also had great coverage thus far. I don't know how much shopping will actually get done, but for lovers of fashion, it's definitely not the night to sit at home.
