Fall trends: statement stripe sweaters

While the origin of the statement stripe sweater (say that 10 times really fast) is unclear, there are a gazillion takes on the trend this season, and I'm here for all of them. Some are more subtle than others, but if you're like me and find yourself starved for color in the winter, this is a pretty easy solution. From skinny rainbow stripes to a more bold, wide, colorblocking, there's something out there for everyone. (There are also softer, more neutral versions, but meh, this is all about bright color.) Here are my favorite statement stripe sweaters for fall.

1. I like the combination of the wider, chunkier stripes in the body with the thinner black-and-white stripes on the sleeves, and the colors here are a bit softer than in some of the other versions. There's a hint of fuzz to this one too, which is also a trend for fall—I saw mohair all over Paris a few months ago.

2. The colors in this cardigan remind me of Missoni—they're still pretty wild, but subdued too. This feels very Scandinavian to me, in the best possible way.

3. This sweater is a straight-up knockoff of an Acne Jeans sweater, and while I'd normally feel kind of bad about that, I've include another Acne sweater below to calm my conscience. Also, you can't really beat the price on this one.

4. Is this sweater really worth $2,000? That's a good question, and I'd say with the quality and level of detail, perhaps. I don't even like cats (well, I'm very allergic) and yet I find myself drawn to this one. The "GUCCIFY" wording also makes me laugh, as that's what's happening in general to fashion right now.

5. Possibly one of the sweaters that started it all, I've seen various versions of this on several of my favorite influencers' Instagram feeds. It's kind of ugly...and yet it works—a combination I often find in my favorite pieces.

6. This sweater reminds me of my childhood. I must have had something similar in my youth, because the rainbow stripes here just make me so happy and nostalgic. The subtle puff to the sleeve feels very elevated, too.

7. This sweater reminds me a lot of the rainbow-stripe sweater that Gap does every holiday season, except with the fitted silhouette and ribbing, it feels much fresher. Also, it's less than $20, so what do you have to lose?

8. I don't really know what's been going on with Marc Jacobs' brand ever since he shut down the beloved Marc division, but it seems that he's lowered prices across the board, and thus this striped cashmere cardigan seems like a relative bargain. I love the mix of colors and textures of the yarns, and the silhouette is just right.

Love all of these bright colors! Although I like the combination of thick and thin stripes, the thicker stripes are my favorite. Love how bold they are!
