My winter uniform

This is the outfit I meant to post last week, however the photos accidentally got deleted from the memory card, so we had to reshoot them. It seemed like a minor catastrophe at the time, but I think these turned out even better than the originals. Anyway, there’s no particular theme to this shoot, other than this has basically been my winter uniform so far: wool coat, cashmere sweater, jeans, and boots. I know I’ve been featuring a lot of jeans recently, but I promise I have some dresses coming up soon. In the meantime, here’s what I’ve been living in.

I bought this coat at the Nordstrom anniversary sale in 2018, and I’m glad Avec Les Filles brought it back for another year. I love that it’s patterned but subtly so, and the colors go with all of the neutrals (which, again, is what I live in during the winter). It’s unlined, which makes it not great for places that get really cold, but it’s perfect for the coldest weather here in San Francisco (upper 40s to low 50s). Plus, it can make anything look polished—wearing it with a dress is an obvious choice, but even my jeans and sweater here feel elevated. The cut is a bit oversized, but that’s how I prefer my winter coats, so that I can layer sweaters and whatnot underneath; I’m wearing a size small.

I bought this Vince sweater after featuring it in this get the look post a few months ago, and in spite of wearing it at least once a week over the last few months, this is its first appearance here. I love how the camel color looks with the plaid of my coat. I’m slowly amassing a collection of Vince cashmere sweaters—they’re somewhat reasonable if you can find them on sale, but the quality is totally worth the investment as they’re super soft and thick. The fit on this one is a little oversized, but I find that Vince tends to run that way in general. I’m in a small for reference.

In spite of not being a skinny jeans person in general, I absolutely love this H&M pair and wear them all the time (you last saw them with tie-dye). They totally suck you in but in a way that’s comfortable, and I like that the ankle is not legging-tight. I generally shy away from tucking my jeans into boots, because I feel like no matter how skinny they are, mine always tend to bunch up at the knee and make me feel like a pirate. But for some reason, these don’t do that, especially with my Calla suede boots. Oh, and did I mention they’re only $20? These have faded a bit over time, but I actually kind of like the softer black look. They run true to size (I’m in a 6).

Speaking of my Calla boots, you last saw these with a leather skirt, and I can’t decide whether I prefer them with jeans or a skirt—they’re just so good with everything. They’re so freaking comfy (I am totally taking them on vacation with me next month), although word obviously got out, because unfortunately they’re sold out now. My A.P.C. sac demi-lune needs no introduction, but I do want to mention the stack of bracelets I’ve been wearing nonstop. After years of working for a jewelry company (and getting publicly shamed for wearing other brands’ pieces to the office) I recently rediscovered a bunch of old gold bracelets that I had forgotten about and am really feeling a big stack of them right now.

I am all about a menswear inspired overcoat! This coat is absolutely gorgeous. And the shades of tan and black are so great on you, too, Cheryl! Your Calla boots really are quite fabulous as well. I loved them with your skirt and they look equally great with skinny jeans. Thanks for linking up.
