An ode to sundresses

Do you remember your first sundress? Mine was a white and yellow daisy print, and I must have lived in it for an entire summer when I was 4 or 5 years old. Ever since then, I've always invested in a sundress or two every summer. The main qualifications are that they need to be sleeveless and lightweight, ideally in a bright, happy color, but the length can be anywhere from midi to maxi and the details—ruffles, pleats, buttons, sashes—are up to you. Most importantly, sundresses should be comfortable, ideally floating away from your body a bit to help mitigate the heat and humidity. Since it's now officially summer—and heat waves are already striking across the globe—I thought I'd share two of my favorite sundresses for this year. They're from a new-to-me brand called The Good Journey, and you can find them on the Maggy London website—plus you can use code CHERYL15 for 15% off. While Maggy London gifted these dresses to me, the following are my honest and unfiltered opinions.

I love a good tie-dye print; the vibe is very summer of love, but with a more structured shape like this, the overall effect is a little more polished. What I love about the fit of this dress is that you can adjust the spaghetti straps, and there's smocking across the back, which helps it fit snugly without digging into your sides. The fabric is a crisp cotton poplin with a bit of stretch, so it holds its shape and doesn't get too wrinkled. I am wearing a strapless bra with this one (I swear by the Chantelle Norah bra, which comes with removable straps) and I feel like the way it's constructed with an empire seam makes it extra supportive. I'm wearing my usual size 6 in this dress, and it's available in up to a size 22—I'd say it definitely runs true to size!

My other favorite dress from The Good Journey is the Nolan. It's an even lighter-weight cotton—more of an airy voile versus a crisp poplin—and it has a cutout in back, which feels like built-in air-conditioning when there's a breeze. I wore it to wine country and stayed nice and cool even thought it was in the upper 80s (already!). I love the boho silhouette of this one; it came with a tie, which I didn't quite understand given the empire waist, so I removed it, which gives the shape a more flowy feel. I am also wearing a strapless bra here, but you might be able to get away with a regular one, since these straps are wider than the Lionel dress. I'm in a medium here, which was definitely the right choice. An easy sundress that feels airy and breathable is exactly what I want to be wearing all season long.

What a beautiful dresses! Love the print and colours of the first one. I bought a lot of dresses with sleeves, stupid, as who wants to have sleeves when it's so warm!
