Which Margaux shoes are best?
Instead of just ordering shoes directly from their website (which, of course, you can do), I was invited to visit their newly opened Marin Country Mart location, which is petite but lovely, with a comfy corner in the back that's perfect for trying on multiple shoes. The Ada is one of their bestsellers, a square-toe ballet style with a low chunky heel; I came in thinking this was the pair I'd walk out with. I was also very intrigued by the zebra haircalf version of The Clara, a sleek mule that reminds me of Charvet slippers (they didn't have my size in the zebra, so I tried them on in black leather). I was really taken with the deep wine color of the Roma 40, however, and when I took them for a spin around the store, I knew they were my favorite of the bunch.
Things to know about Margaux shoes
- Their size range is unparalleled. Most styles come in three widths—narrow, regular, and wide—and go up to a US 14/EU 45.
- Margaux's customer service is excellent. I received a personalized email after my shoes were delivered, following up to make sure I was happy with the fit.
- Returns are accepted within 14 days (exchange or store credit within 30 days) and do carry a return shipping fee, unless taken to a store.
The Margaux Roma 40
I was not expecting the Roma 40 to be so comfortable, especially for such a pointy-toe style. The toe area does not pinch at all, and while patent leather can often feel rigid, the Roma's leather is surprisingly soft. Believe it or not, I found it to be even more comfortable than The Ada! What really surprised me, however, is that the elastic back stays put and doesn't slip—as someone with narrow heels, I often struggle with this design feature. The sole is cushy and flexible, and there's rubber at the toe tip, which gives it a little extra pliability. While I do wear flats quite a bit, I tend to prefer a low heel for the office, and at 1.5 inches (or 40 mm), this one is just right, with an unexpected amount of stability for a kitten heel. I took my usual size—a 39 regular—and found they run true to size. I did find The Ada to be a bit narrow, however; I would have gone with a 39 wide in that pair. I have worn my Roma 40s to work and out to dinner, and while I wouldn't recommend walking 12,000 steps in them, they are comfortable for light movement and, of course, for sitting.
My honest review of Margaux shoes
I love that Margaux offers such a wide range of sizes and widths—in this day and age, that is really a rarity with shoe brands. Their shoes are made in Spain, designed with great attention to detail, and are clearly high quality. All of these features do require a bit of an investment, however. Margaux's line starts in the mid $200s for sandals and tops out above $600 for knee-high boots; most flats and heels are in the $300-$400 range. This is not outrageous for the quality (which is really good), but I do want to be conscious of price. If you wear a hard-to-find size—especially if you have narrow or wide feet on top of that—Margaux likely feels like a godsend. For the rest of us, these are on-trend, well-made leather shoes, and I already have my eye on another pair.

Pointy toed shoes have always been my downfall. Great that they do differen twidths. I love the sound of the zebra haircalf mules. Thanks for linking!
These are perfect for autumn! They look fab with the olive pants. It's great that they come in such a big size range. I have narrow heels too and slip ons often slip off...or they're too tight and pinch. It's hard to find the happy medium. Thanks for linking!

The wide size range and multiple widths are good to know about. I also like that the Roma 40 has that elastic back that doesn't slip. The deep wine color sounds really nice. It's helpful to hear the Ada runs a bit narrow too. GenerateOrgChart
I really enjoyed how honest and detailed this review is. It’s helpful to hear about the different Margaux styles rather than just getting a general opinion of the brand. The Roma 40 in that deep wine shade sounds especially beautiful, and I love that the final choice came from actually trying the shoes on instead of simply picking a bestseller. The mix of style, personal experience, and transparency about the gifted pair makes this review feel genuinely trustworthy.
