BCBG Max Azriz Spring 2010
Where & When: Thursday, September 10th at 10 a.m., the Tent, Bryant Park
Runway Recap: I don't know about you, but BCBG is always one of my go-to labels for fun party dresses. And that's exactly what Max Azria sent down the runway today: a focused collection of 30 or so party-ready dresses, most in brightly colored or printed jersey, some draped, and some bandage-style with mesh cutouts. One-shoulder styles were still in full effect, as were body-conscious fits. It was a collection that celebrated youth and a carefree attitude, and who can argue with that?
Standout Look: There were bright colors and fun prints galore, but, let's face it, black dresses sell well. The cutouts on this are bra-friendly, and the draping is a bit more forgiving than many of the other dresses in the collection.
Bonus Points: BCBG is always one of the first shows of Fashion Week, and it's always a fun way to start the season--the show is always packed, and always draws a bunch of top fashion editors. Today, I had a perfect view of none other than Ms. Anna Wintour, who was seated directly across the runway from me.
Where to Buy: At the 562 BCBG stores worldwide, and BCBG.com.
BCBG Fall 2008
Where & When: Friday, February 1st at 3 p.m. in the Tent, Bryant Park
Runway Recap: BCBG is always on the first day of Fashion Week and always a fun show--it's packed with celebs and fashion editors, they hire the big-name models, and the music is great. This season was no exception--Chanel Iman et al. strutted to The Pierces in a pretty, wearable collection. Dresses and bloused featured intricate pleating and ruching at the shoulders; skirts were mostly short and tulip-shaped, a silhouette that appears to be here to stay, at least for now. Nearly every look was tied at the waist with a tipped leather belt, an accessory I will definitely add to my collection ASAP.
Standout Look: The asymmetrical blouse has a drapey, soft look, while the dark hue of the bubble skirt means your hips won't look like a cream puff.
Bonus Points: I couldn't see celebs Sophia Bush, Joss Stone, Cheryl Hines, or Ana Ortiz from where I was standing, but I did have a perfect view of ultracool mom-and-daughter duo Carine and Julia Restoin Roitfeld.
