A long weekend in NYC
Thursday, January 23, 2020
We were just in New York City in October, but when we got an invite to a dear friend's 40th birthday celebration (that just so happened to coincide with a holiday weekend), of course we couldn't say no to another trip. So we sent Zuni off to Petcamp, hopped on a 6 a.m. flight, and touched down at JFK just in time for the festivities. Here's how we spent three days in New York.

New York City travel diary
Thursday, January 10, 2019
As I mentioned in Tuesday's post, I go to New York City at least once a year. Even though it's been over five years since I moved away, I miss living there, and I love going back to see what's new. It had been several years since I'd been there around the holidays, and even though Christmas was over by the time we arrived, there's something magical about seeing the city all decorated and lit up. The tradeoff about visiting New York in winter is that sometimes the weather can be terrible, but thankfully we were lucky on this trip, with pretty mild temperatures and only one day of rain. (That said, there's still plenty to do indoors when it rains.) Here's how we filled our days—and nights.

What to wear in NYC in winter
Tuesday, January 08, 2019
As some of you may know, I used to live in New York City—for 13 years, to be exact—and after moving to San Francisco five years ago, I've been back to visit every year. I almost missed a year, but thankfully squeezed in a trip right after Christmas. We lucked out with amazing weather (sometimes there are major snowstorms in December) and, as always, the trip was a whirlwind. I'll be sharing more photos later this week, but in the meantime, here's my winter uniform for NYC.

Cheryl Shops New York City: 5 Top Stores
Tuesday, September 11, 2012
As a New York City resident, I have a distinct advantage in covering Fashion Week, in that every night, no matter how where I've been or what I've seen, I get to come home and go to sleep in my own bed. It's funny, though, how many people you meet who've come here from L.A. or Seattle or Kansas or wherever to cover the shows, and they're just so excited to be in NYC, it reminds me of why I love this city so much. And one of those reasons is that New York City is still one of the best places in the world to shop. So, I interrupt my Fashion Week coverage to bring you my top five shopping destinations in New York City, for tourists and locals alike.
449 W 14th St.
The store that pretty much made the Meatpacking District a hotspot, it has the most mouth-watering shoe selection in NYC. Look for their twice-yearly sales, usually in January and June.
9 Christopher St.
This jewel box of a store in the West Village stocks hard-to-find scents by niche perfumers, and gives out generous samples if, like me, you have a hard time making up your mind.
888 Broadway
This NYC institution boasts ten floors of otherworldly furniture to fill your dream apartment. Make a pit stop at the Jean-Georges Vongerichten-helmed ABC Kitchen restaurant inside.
35 Howard St.
Now celebrating its 10 year, Opening Ceremony remains, hands down, the coolest place to shop in NYC. It has the hottest, most cutting-edge designers, including ones you've never heard of but who are likely to become household names one day.
399 Lafayette St.
If you follow me on Instagram, you know I post pictures of my drinks almost as frequently as my shoes. What can I say? I like to drink. The best place to stock up is this warehouse-like store, with an incredibly friendly, knowledgable staff and great bargain picks too.
As you may have noticed, there are five stores here. Five happens to be my favorite number, but there's another reason too.
