What to wear with lavender

We've been having a heat wave in San Francisco the last few days—it's been sunny and in the upper 60s, which has felt like heaven after months and months of rain. I have a feeling winter still has a few weeks left, but in the meantime, I'm all about spring. So this week, I put together a transitional look—the colors are very springy, but the layers are a little more realistic for the weather this time of year.

Lavender is not a color that I own a lot of. In fact, this appears to be the only lavender piece in my closet at the moment. But this sweater was on sale at Madewell, so I decided to try something new, and I'm glad I did. It's crazy soft and quite flattering. I sized up to a medium because the reviews said it ran small, or at least short. I probably could have gone with a small, but I like the ease of the larger size. The length is somewhat cropped, but it's perfect for wearing with high-waisted jeans such as these.

I wear white jeans all year round (most recently here), but I practically live in them in warmer months. I love how these lighten up my entire look, but real talk, I should have sized down because the more I've worn them, the baggier they've become. (I'm in my usual size 28.) They're sold out now (it's last year's style), and I can't say I'd really recommend them anyway. So my search for the perfect white jeans continues—feel free to recommend your favorites in the comments below!

I decided to top this look with a raincoat because, well, it was raining on and off when we shot these. This is my dressier raincoat (you last saw it with leggings), and while I love it, I'm also kind of tired of wearing it! Anyway, I thought the navy harmonized well with the lavender, and the darker color is a welcome contrast against the lighter sweater and jeans. For reference, I'm in a size small, which is my usual at Everlane.

While I wouldn't normally advise wearing a pair of Italian leather shoes in the rain, these actually can handle it, thanks to their cracked metallic finish. They also instantly make any look fancier (last seen on New Year's Eve). Gucci no longer makes this shoe in silver, but the gold is still around, and it's just as good, if not better. I'm in a 38.5 (I normally wear an 8.5 US) and I'd say these run pretty true to size.

We shot these photos in Telegraph Hill, which is kind of a touristy area and one that I haven't spent much time in. It has incredible views of the Bay and the entire city, and it was kind of lovely and quiet too. The main attraction there is Coit Tower, and I recommend driving if you don't like walking up like a 60-degree incline—they weren't joking around with the Hill name!
