Fall trend preview

Since Monday was officially the first day of fall, now we can talk about fall fashion, which is my favorite season for it. I mean, what’s not to love about cozy sweaters, comfy boots, and an overall feeling of hygge? I am really excited to share my favorite fall 2019 trends—so excited, in fact, that I’m going to try something new and kick off my fall shopping guide with a preview of everything I’ll be featuring. The best part is that all of the items can be worn together to create one amazing (and age-appropriate) fall look. Here are my must-have trends for fall 2019.

Oversized Plaid Blazer
I featured plaid boyfriend blazers a few years ago, and while they’re almost too classic to qualify as a trend, the look this year is extra long—like, cover-your-butt long—and in a menswear-inspired plaid. Rule of thumb when shopping online: make sure the body length is longer than the sleeves. That way, you can even get away with wearing it with leggings.

Wide-Leg Leather Pants
It’s one of those things that just sounds wrong, but is totally right. And if you think about it, is a natural winter extension of the whole wide-leg pant trend. They will definitely keep you warm, and for those prone to overheating, there are a bunch of slightly cropped options, such as this very reasonably priced Topshop pair.

Square-Neck Top
This is kind of an extension of a late-breaking summer trend, the square-neck dress. The silhouette is more fitted in the body, and some of my favorite iterations, such as this one, have a slightly voluminous sleeve. The fitted shape is key with this entire outfit, as you need something more snug to contrast with the oversized blazer and wide-leg pant. Plus, it will look perfectly proportioned when you take off the jacket too.

Snake-Print Boots
I featured snake print as a trend for spring 2019, and…it’s still here and going strong. This season, I’m zeroing in on snake-print boots, and there are a bunch in all shapes and colors too. Just like leopard print, I see snakeskin as a neutral—so yes, you can indeed wear it with a plaid blazer. Just remember to keep your color scheme unified, as with the black-and-white motif here.

Buckle Bag
I tend to prefer streamlined bags without a lot of bells and whistles, but I occasionally am a sucker for a good bit of hardware. Boyy, the Bangkok-based handbag line, kind of started the whole thing (and is still the best example), but there are many iterations out there, from minimalist to maximalist. I am particularly fond of See by Chloe’s thin gold buckle design, as well as the versatile shape of this mid-size bag.

Blazers do seem to be in the spotlight lately! I love these baggy ones. And, I'm on the hunt for some snakeskin booties.

I really like the big square neckline. It's a really flattering look, I think. I love the plaid blazers too,but have to be careful about proportion. Styles that are too over sized, swallow me up.

Love your picks, Cheryl! I styled a similar blazer for tomorrow’s Fab 40’s post and I wore my snakeskin boots today! I think I’m kind of digging the square necklines, but you don't see them very often. Thanks for linking up with me this week!
