What to wear with faux-leather joggers

I spent a lot of time recently—too much, perhaps—wondering if I could pull off leather jogger pants. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a pair. They were a fantastic deal, but they made my hips look ginormous (I think I ordered a size too big). Then I tried a pair that was too small, although I loved the cut. Finally, I think I found the pair that's just right. While I would have preferred a real leather pair, I settled for vegan leather; there are just more options out there, some of which are surprisingly priced at real-leather levels. I still am not 100% convinced that I can pull these off, but that's not going to stop me from continuing to try. Here's what I wore with my vegan leather jogger pants.

These faux-leather joggers are by Michael Kors, and while the price is already reasonable, they're on sale at the moment, which makes them even better. I will say, I am impressed with the quality of the faux leather (which is polyester coated in polyurethane), and they did not make me sweat. They have an elastic waistband with a drawstring, pockets, and elastic ankles with a zipper, which is key, because it allows you to customize the leg opening. I found that I prefer mine unzipped a little so they don't get all bunchy in the leg. I think they're pretty flattering, to be honest! Again, I'd be willing to splurge on a real leather pair, so instead I'll just have to wear these until they're threadbare, so I can feel less guilty about draining our planet of petroleum. I'd say these pants run a bit large; I'm in a small and they're still rather generous.

While I'm definitely going to try dressing these pants up next, for my first outing, I went with a mostly casual look, which worked for the weekend. You last saw this Cuddl Duds top in my dog-walking outfit, and I like how it looked casual yet not sloppy with the joggers. It's one of my go-to weekend tops for good reason. I'm in a small for reference; it runs true to size.

Since my top and pants were a little more casual, I decided to go with a dressier coat, although this Uniqlo camel coat is so comfy, it hardly feels formal. Honestly, it's like wearing a bathrobe in the best way possible, but fewer things make me feel more pulled together than a camel coat—it's just so iconic and classy. Mine is from last year, but Uniqlo makes a similar style nearly every year. It runs on the roomy side—I'm in a small and it's generous enough for layering a thick sweater underneath. Oh, and you last saw this one earlier in December.

Shoe-wise, the obvious thing would be to wear a sneaker, and while I was very tempted to do so, I thought something slightly more polished would be best. A high heel would have looked too out of place, but this Oxford is just right. I recently saw a post from a few years ago when I first got this pair, and I've obviously worn these quite a lot since then; I think I might actually order another pair, because I love them so much and will be heartbroken when they eventually wear out. (Although these definitely show some wear, they have a ton of life left.) Vionic shoes are so freaking comfy, yet not at all dorky, which is one of the many reasons why I love them. And by the way, you last saw these with navy and gray, and for reference, they run true to size.

And yes, that is the Palace of Fine Arts in the background; it was a good place for a photo shoot because everyone was so busy taking their own photos, they weren't paying any attention to me! ;)

Cheryl, this outfit is fantastic! I think you have styled these joggers perfectly. And I am dying over these adorable shoes and your perfect camel coat. I still have not figured out to style joggers of any sort without looking like I am just wearing joggers and getting ready for bed! But I keep seeing lots of my blogger buddies doing the jogger thing in the most brilliant way! Maybe I will get inspired to give it a try. Thanks for joining Your Own Twist Link Up with me and Monica! Wishing you a happy new year!
