What to wear in Healdsburg

I just came back from an amazing weekend with friends in Healdsburg, which is a town in the northern part of Sonoma County. I love the whole vibe of that region—it’s a little more laid back and less touristy than Napa and Sonoma (the town), but it’s home to some of my favorite wineries and some amazing restaurants too. We rented a house just outside of town, along the Russian River, and it was so incredibly peaceful. I walked Zuni down to the river every morning, then we spent the afternoons enjoying the unseasonably warm and sunny weather, often with a glass of wine in hand. It was so relaxing and rejuvenating, I can’t wait to go back. But until then, here’s what I wore over the weekend.

Saturday
One of my favorite things about living in Northern California is being able to sit outside in the sunshine while wearing a sweater. That’s what I did on Saturday—with a blazer on top—and I was actually a little warm. I know we still need more rain here in California, but the sunshine was much appreciated. As for my outfit, it was actually built around these snakeskin-embossed Vionic heels, which felt kind of fancy to be wearing to a wine tasting, but they’re so comfy, they're like wearing sneakers. Expect to see a lot more of them here!

Sunday
I kept it a little more casual on the second day, with my faux leather joggers, white tee, and J.Crew quilted jacket, which is so soft and feels like wearing a hug. These Vans sneakers are new, and before you ask, my no-new-stuff rule technically applies only to clothes (I think used shoes are kind of yuck, but no judgment if you like them). This is my first pair of Vans ever, and they’re freaking comfortable, although they’re not the easiest to get on and off. Expect to see a lot more of these too.

Monday
I packed everything into my large carry-on bag (it’s like a small weekender), so certain things had to be re-worn, like my blazer and white jeans (which I wouldn’t necessarily recommend—mine were not so pristine by midday). I’ve been wearing this Vince mock-turtleneck top nonstop; as someone with a short neck, I’ve finally come around to the perfection that is the mock neck. It’s not so high that it gets all bunchy around my neck, and not so short that it looks weird. In other words, it’s just right, and kind of makes you feel like Steve Jobs, in a good way. Genius!
