What to wear with culotte jeans

In a pretty stark contrast to last week's all-knit outfit, I'm in all wovens this week. And while normally this outfit would seem pretty casual, I felt rather dressed up wearing clothes with buttons and zippers! That said, this is a look that I more or less wore in London last month, but I had to keep the jacket zipped up because it was so chilly. It's definitely still on the cool side here, but these lighter colors at least look a little springy—hence why I jumped at the chance to shoot it again under some pretty blossoming trees. Here's how it all came together.

These Paige culotte jeans were a new-with-tags Poshmark purchase back when I was on my no-new-clothes resolution kick. (Ok, I'm still on the same kick, although I did recently go on an online shopping binge, which I justified by telling myself it was good for the economy. Slip-ups are to be forgiven, and back on the wagon I go!) I'd been searching for the perfect cropped, wide-leg white jeans ever since I featured something similar in this get this look post, and while these fit fabulously, my one quibble with them is that they don't have any front pockets. It does create a smoother line and prevents any bunchiness or see-through pocket outlines, but I find myself constantly trying to shove my hands into pockets that don't exist. That said, I love how these fit (very true to size—I'm in my usual 28), from the high waist to the ankle-length wide-leg silhouette. They're soft and lightweight with a hint of stretch—the perfect summer pant.

I had planned to wear my other army-green J.Crew jacket with this outfit, but it's still a little on the chilly side here, so hopefully you're not sick of seeing my quilted jacket (which I wore nonstop in London). This jacket is super soft and is warmer than it looks, plus J.Crew has been offering it at 40% off recently, so it's a super good buy right now, especially for the spring transitional weather that the country is experiencing.

I've had this Madewell chambray shirt for ages (you last saw it with my leopard-print skirt) and in spite of the fact that it's woven, it's super soft and cut with a rather loose fit, so as far as shirts go, it's one of the most comfortable ones I own. Madewell makes a version of this shirt every season in various washes, and it's a wardrobe essential as far as I'm concerned. This shirt runs TTS, if a little oversized—I'm in a small.

So, real talk, I've been pretty much wearing sneakers nonstop lately (the exception being my Ugg boots), so during my previously-mentioned online shipping binge, I also snapped up these Veja sneakers. Veja is a French brand that's super-hot right now; they're like a more affordable Golden Goose. Their V10 and V12 sneakers are probably more popular (and more versatile), but I decided to try the Condor, their running sneaker, in spite of the fact that I don't actually run. I was intrigued by the fact that it's made out of recycled materials, which helped me justify (or at least rationalize) the purchase. I know they're kind of dorky, but hopefully in a cool French dork way? I am normally a 8.5 in US shoes so I ordered a 39 in these, and they fit perfectly. Oh, and did I mention how comfy they are? I may never go back to real shoes again.

I've been tempted by the Veja sneakers but so far have shopped less expensive brands. I do love your culottes. I am on the lookout for some wide leg pants and hope to thrift some when the store open up again.
