What to wear with white ankle boots

How quickly everything changes. A week ago, when we shot this, it was chilly and had been raining (which is very rare in May); today, as I'm writing this, it's gorgeously sunny and in the upper 70s. All of a sudden it feels like summer, and I'm here for it. I know I'm not alone in thinking what a crazy year this has been so far: I took my laptop home on March 13th, thinking I'd be working from home for a couple weeks; I just found out last week that my entire department will continue to do so until Labor Day. Long story short, nothing is certain, and the only constant is change. So with that in mind, I thought I'd try something new, e.g. a pair of pointy-toe white ankle boots. Anything that gets me out of my house slippers is a good thing, right?

I grew up thinking I had huge feet; I have since learned that my size, 8.5, is pretty damn common. (My sister wears a size 5 and cleans up at shoe sales like you wouldn't believe.) I share this because I historically stayed away from lighter colored shoes for fear that they made my feet look ginormous but have since realized that not only are my feet of average size, I couldn't care less how big they look. That said, I don't think these Calla booties make my feet look big at all. They elongate the entire leg in a flattering way, and like all Calla shoes, they're ridiculously comfortable, since they're designed for people who have bunions (i.e. me). If you have lived life thinking you can't wear pointy-toe shoes, I advise you to try a pair of these. They do run a bit big, however—pay attention to the sizing direction on Calla's website when you order yours.

On my first outing with these white booties, I decided to play it safe with a pair of white jeans. It's elongating to keep your pants and shoes in the same color, and well, it's also (almost) summer, or peak white denim season. You last saw these Old Navy jeans in Healdsburg and yes, even in winter, I wear them constantly. It's hard to find the perfect pair of white jeans—they're often too lightweight and see-through, or too stiff and unflattering—but I absolutely love this pair, especially because they have hidden stretchy pockets that act like a pair of Spanx. The best part is that they're under $50, proving that you don't have to pay a gazillion dollars for a great pair of jeans. I'm in my usual size (28).

On my countless Zoom calls for work, I've noticed how many coworkers have embraced the sweatshirt, and of all the Coronavirus trends, I hope this is one that sticks. I've happily worn sweatshirts all my life, and while they're not as polished as sweaters, they're so comfy (and maybe a little cooler). You last saw this Anine Bing sweatshirt with all black and I've been pretty much wearing it nonstop since then, because comfort aside, it's a great transitional weight that feels adaptable to spring temperatures. Plus, this one is just so cool and effortless, thanks to its '80s-inspired rocker vibes. This one is sadly sold out, but I've linked a similar style below.

And in case you were wondering when I was going to break out my trusty J.Crew field jacket again, the answer is now. I know it's been awhile since you've seen it—about a year, to be exact—but it's back with a vengeance. And in case you were on the fence about getting one, I'd advise you to do it, because JC is in Chapter 11 right now and sadly might not be around that much longer (although I'm hoping they pull through). I'm wearing a small, I've had this jacket for approximately 14 years, and it's 100% worth the (very small, at this point) investment. Also, spoiler alert: I'm wearing it in next week's outfit post too. ;)

Cheryl, this is such a cute outfit! I love white booties and have about 4 different pairs but I was the same as you...afraid they would make my feet look gigantic (I wear a 10/11). But I suppose my feet are proportioned to my body as far as I can tell. Haha. I love your cute graphic sweatshirt! Thanks for linking up.
