As I noted a few weeks ago, there's no such thing as too many little white dresses as far as I'm concerned. Seems like you're on a white dress kick too, because the most-pinned look from my Outfit ideas for ageless style Pinterest board features one prominently. Since it's now peak LWD season, let's re-create the look for less.

The best white dresses under $200
Tuesday, May 09, 2023
I love a good white dress (or nine); there's nothing I like to wear more in summer. A little (or not-so-little) white dress has the same timeless, chic appeal as a little black dress, but it feels a little brighter and more optimistic. Plus, white looks better with a tan. After a recent closet clean-out, I've already bought two new white dresses so far this year, and because I just can't help myself, I have eight more saved in various shopping carts. Best part? They're all under $200. But first, let's talk about my newest one.

House dresses are having a moment, which makes sense, because we are, for the most part, literally housebound. But as I noted in Monday's post, just because you're staying at home doesn't mean you can't look pretty. This month's most repinned look from my Outfit ideas for ageless style Pinterest board manages to feel both comfy and feminine, which pretty much explains why it's so popular. And who can say no to a little white dress at this time of year?

What to wear in Mexico City
Tuesday, June 04, 2019
In case you haven't been following me on Instagram (shameless plug, sorry), I spent an extended Memorial Day weekend in Mexico City. I had wanted to go there for awhile—I feel like nearly everyone I know has been there in recent years—and without spoiling my upcoming trip diary, it completely lived up to the hype. The food was amazing (and cheap), the city very urbane, the people incredibly kind, and I had a fantastic time overall. We were incredibly lucky weather-wise—it rained briefly a few times at night (it's the beginning of the rainy season) but was sunny and in the low 80s during the day. The city is at a very high elevation (7,000 feet!) and the air is quite dry, so the weather was actually quite temperate (and my hair remained blissfully frizz free). I stuck to a light-neutral color palette for this trip, which made both packing and getting dressed quite easy. Plus, the city is gorgeous and brightly colored in lots of spots, so it totally popped in photos against my outfits. Speaking of which, here's one of my favorite looks from the trip.

What to wear on your blogiversary
Tuesday, August 14, 2018
Happy blogiversary to me! Exactly a year ago today, I had an epiphany that I needed to start blogging again, so after a three-year break, I wrote this post announcing my intentions, and here I am a year later. I am amazed and humbled by what I've achieved so far, and I'm grateful to you for reading and supporting me! To commemorate this occasion, I built an outfit around the dress I wore in my first outfit post back in August of last year. (I am almost embarrassed to link to it—we shot it in broad daylight, so there are shadows all over my face, plus my boyfriend has since upgraded his lenses and become an overall awesome photographer. Needless to say, we have learned and grown a lot in the last year!) And because I was so happy with how this shoot turned out, I'm including lots of extra photos. Ready to start scrolling?

Get the look: white eyelet dress
Thursday, July 12, 2018
It's high summer—and still Dress Month here at Cheryl Shops—so what better thing to wear than a little white dress? This highly-pinned look from my Outfit Ideas for Ageless Style Pinterest board revolves around a white eyelet dress that looks so fresh and cool to me, I can see why it's been so popular. So without further ado, let's put it together.

What to wear with a white lace dress
Tuesday, June 05, 2018
In my professional career, I've written a lot of "the little white dress is the summer version of the little black dress" copy. It's cliché, but it's true: the LWD is just a classic. Plus, the lighter color keeps you cooler when things start to heat up. So I'm kicking off summer with one of my personal favorite dresses—it's white, it's lacy, and it's the type of thing you want to live in all season long. Because, let's face it, it's too hot to wear pants.

What to wear with a little white dress

Proving that I've never been one to follow trends, here I am posting about what I wore on vacation while everyone else is bundling up in sweaters, boots, and coats. But hopefully some of you have a winter getaway coming up, and thus this post will come in handy! I just spent a week in Hawaii—four days in Maui, four in Kauai—and it was pure bliss. I'd never been there before and was blown away by how exotic and magical it was—especially Kauai, which felt like a cross between Jurassic Park and South Pacific (both of which were filmed there). For one, there are the sunsets.
Gathering to watch the sunset was a nightly occurrence at our hotel, and a fun one at that, especially with a mai tai or glass of wine from the bar. Another vacation ritual I enjoy is wearing a dress every night to dinner—after being in a bikini and flip-flops all day, it just feels nice to get dressed up and go out.
A little white dress is the little black dress's warm-weather cousin, and this off-the-shoulder style is pretty much universally flattering. I love the straight shape of this one too—it camouflages the four pounds I gained on vacation (yes, those mai tais add up)—AND it has pockets!
I also love to wear gold jewelry on vacation, especially once I have a good tan going. I like to keep it delicate, though—when I'm in warm weather, I don't want to overwhelm myself with big, clunky jewelry. I also tend to get really lazy and not take off my necklaces while I'm at the beach (hey, that makes it even easier to get dressed for dinner!).
Not counting my flip-flops, I brought five pairs of shoes on this trip and ended up wearing two of them—one being these slip-ons that I featured in this post. Of course, sometimes I barely even wore them, like when my photographer had me frolic on the beach for these shots (it was worth it, of course—the lighting was way better). I mean...
OUTFIT DETAILS: Banana Republic dress (similar here on sale) || Quay Australia Odin sunglasses || Stella & Dot abundance necklace and engravable disc necklace || Catbird ring, X ring, tiny CZ ring || Chan Luu beaded bracelet, Stella & Dot open cuff and rectangle cuff || Stella & Dot hammered wire hoops || Sam & Libby slides (similar here on sale)

As you may have noticed, my hair is curly in these photos. That is indeed its natural state; when I'm somewhere tropical and humid, fighting the curl is a losing battle. Thankfully the beachy waves work with my vacation vibe.

Little White Dresses Under $100
Thursday, June 06, 2013
Almost exactly two years ago, I was heading out to Montauk to get married. (Coincidentally, it was also an unseasonably cold, rainy weekend.) While my wedding was fantastic and magical, the months leading up to it were, to put it mildly, one of the most stressful periods of my life. I was one of those people who read too many wedding blogs and became obsessed with art-directing every last detail of my wedding; I nearly had a nervous breakdown over tablecloths. But although it seemed a bit loopy at the time, one of my best ideas was wearing all white dresses for the entire weekend of my wedding. Not only did everyone know I WAS THE BRIDE, GODDAMMIT, I ended up with a bunch of cute summer dresses, all of which are still in regular rotation in my closet, with the exception of my after-party dress, which suffered an untimely death via whiskey-and-pizza stains. (Hey, I hadn't eaten carbs in a month—give a girl a break!) I'm of the mind that one can never have too many little white dresses—they're the summer cousin of that perennial wardrobe classic, the little black dress—so here are a bunch of this year's favorites, all under $100.
1. Okay, so this Nasty Gal Summer Dreams dress is technically cream, not white, but close enough. It has subtle lace insets for built-in ventilation, and the babydoll cut means you can drink as many margaritas as you want and not have to worry about your stomach sticking out. It's also 100% cotton, which is key for breathability.
2. I like this Topshop lace shift dress because it looks like something Twiggy would've worn in the '60s, but you'd almost never find a vintage dress in such pristine condition. I won't tell if you won't.
3. Speaking of vintage, ModCloth totally leverages that aesthetic for its Zooey Deschanel-loving, social-media-savvy, twentysomething clientele. In fact, I could picture the New Girl herself wearing this sweet Coconuts for the Coast dress.
4. This Dorothy Perkins maxi dress is like a unicorn: it's white, it's long, and it's beyond fabulous. It's also 100% cotton and, at $55, a total steal, so, yes, I've already ordered one. Warning to my friends: You're going to see a lot of this one this summer.
5. Miss Selfridge always seemed like the UK's version of Wet Seal to me, but judging by the number of groovy boho-chic dresses on their website, perhaps they're repositioning themselves. This pom-pom lace dress is finished with such lovely details, it looks far more expensive than it is—a straight-up bargain at $80.

TheFind Guest Post: New Fashion Basic: Little White Dress
Tuesday, June 01, 2010

Everyone knows that the little black dress is a staple in anyone's closet. After all, the godmother of fashion Coco Chanel is attributed to the creation and popularity of the little black dress in the 1920s! The LBD can be extremely versatile from work to play. Since we've got that covered (in my case, with multiple LBDs) it's time to invest in a little white dress. Spring and summer is the perfect time to shop for a white dress you can wear to a picnic date at the park or brunch with your family.
If you're looking for something that's charming enough to wear to meet your boyfriend's parents or even just running errands around town, the Marc by Marc Jacobs Eyelet Embroidered Dress is almost saccharine sweet. And I'm always a sucker for dresses with pockets. For something a little more edgy you can always count on designer Alexander Wang to deliver. His Cutout Ponte Dress has all the right combination of sexy cutouts and pintucks in a skintight jersey dress. Sigh.
