Essential summer dresses under $100

We are nearing the end of Dress Month here at Cheryl Shops—how is it almost August already?!—but I've saved one of my favorite posts for last. Here are eight essential dresses every woman should have in her wardrobe. You've seen me wear all of these silhouettes—I hate to make blanket statments like this, but they are truly universally flattering on a range of body types. The best part? All the styles below are all under $100. (You're welcome.)

1. The maxi dress
I like one with sleeves so you can layer it when the weather gets colder. This one gets bonus points for its bright color and waist-defining belt.
Stone Row wrap dress $98

2. The peasant dress
It should be bright, embroidered, and boho in spirit; for the wary, this one also comes in more muted colors.
Zulily embroidered peasant dress $34.99

3. The T-shirt dress
This is my favorite thing to wear on the weekend, all year long—with sandals in the summer; layer it with a cardigan and tights in the winter.
Alternative Apparel striped dress $58

4. The shirtdress
A favorite for work—clean, polished, classic. I have them in several colors, with or without belts.
Everlane shirtdress $75

5. The wrap dress
This one is probably shorter and more feminine than what I'd typically wear, but I couldn't resist its fun color and flirty ruffles.
4OUR Dreamers dress $89.95 (on sale)

6. The crochet dress
It's a little white dress with built-in air conditioning. This one comes in several more shades too, if you're at your LWD capacity.

7. The midi dress
This is a length that I used to consider dowdy but has stealthily become my favorite. Welcome to your 40s.

8. The slip dress
This shape is simultaneously comfy and sultry. Is there a sexier dress out there? I dare you to find one.
