What I wore in Kansas City

Last weekend, we traveled to Kansas City for my nephew's wedding. Yes, I am old enough to have a nephew getting married. No, I will not shut up. Anyway, Kansas City is known for being ridiculously humid this time of year, but thankfully we lucked out with hot but not terribly muggy weather. The trip was a bit of a whirlwind, but we squeezed in as much quality family time as possible. Here's what I wore.

On the plane
I have a travel uniform, and it's generally composed of a blazer, a long-sleeved T-shirt, jeans, and sneakers. I always pick a neutral and build my travel wardrobe around it; I went with navy this time and realized I need more blues in my wardrobe, as they're a little softer (and more flattering) than black. Anyway, layers are essential when you travel, because the temperature on a plane can go from freezing to balmy in minutes flat. I like a lightweight blazer because it makes the T-shirt and jeans I'm wearing look that much more polished. I almost always wear stretchy jeans because I find them to be the most comfortable (and can accommodate both airplane bloat and my compression socks). And if you're chronically late for flights like I am, sneakers are sometimes necessary for running through the terminal. I should also note that this is the first time you're seeing my daytime bag on Cheryl Shops; it's the Voltaire tote by Allsaints and it's the perfect work bag.

To the rehearsal brunch
My nephew and his fiancée were super low-key about the entire wedding, and instead of a rehearsal dinner, they had a family brunch. So to go casual yet celebratory (and weather appropriate), I wore an old Isabel Marant peasant top with a denim skirt and my comfy Vionic sandals, which were key because my feet started to swell from all the barbecue I ate.

Before the wedding
It had rained overnight, so it was actually a little cool when we went out to grab coffee in the morning. Of course, by the time we popped over to a nearby park to take these photos, the sun was trying to come out and the air started to get thick with humidity. That said, I found it handy to have this lightweight cardigan with me, because the air-conditioning was a bit aggressive at times.

P.S. Ironically, we did not get a shot of what I actually wore to the wedding (at least, not before my hair went into mega-frizz mode), but both my dress and shoes were old, so the outfit wouldn't be shoppable anyway. Alas, next time!
