What to wear in Carmel in autumn

I was #blessed to spend a weekend in Carmel again—as you may recall, we go every August for car week, which I love, but this time was a totally different experience. For one, the town was waaaaay less crowded. For another, the weather was absolutely gorgeous; it’s normally foggy and chilly in the summer, but it was clear and crisp and surprisingly warm. I have a more in-depth post on my trip coming later this week, but in the meantime, here’s what I wore in Carmel last weekend.

Friday
Under ideal circumstances, it should take about two and a half hours to drive from San Francisco to Carmel. Unfortunately, I waited an hour too long to leave and thus arrived after the sun set. Route talk aside, this is the only documentation of my Friday outfit; I’m wearing white jeans and sneakers on my lower half, but you’ll see those later. I keep meaning to give this J.Crew jacket the love it deserves—it is far warmer than it looks, and it’s so soft, it feels like wearing a hug. We ate dinner outside, and I was super warm and cozy the entire time.

Saturday
I recently discovered Naked Cashmere, and of all the direct-to-consumer cashmere brands, it’s my favorite. This is their Waverly sweater, and is it so freaking soft, I could wear it every day. I'm wearing a T-shirt underneath, which I think is making it look a little bulkier than it is. (I’m in a small, for reference.) I paired it with my Madewell Cali demi-boot jeans (last seen with leopard) and beloved Golden Goose Superstar sneakers (last seen with a slip skirt); I ended up ditching my jacket for most of the day, but definitely needed it at night. Thankfully there was a lot of wine in Carmel to keep me warm too!

Sunday
It was so warm on our last day, I didn’t need a jacket at all, so instead I wore my trusty Halogen cardigan (last seen with a midi skirt) over a striped tee (last seen with a slip skirt) and white jeans (last seen in summer). P.S. this sweater is 50% off at the moment—I might buy it in black! And I did bring more than one pair of shoes, but I wish I had actually packed my Birkenstocks and enjoyed one last day of sandal weather—they would have been great for the beach too. Alas, these sneakers go with pretty much everything, so they were a smart choice. Plus, they were comfy for walking Zuni all weekend.
