7 ways to wear a leather jacket

It is finally looking like leather jacket season in San Francisco (not to be confused with the rest of the year except for September and October, which is also leather jacket season), so in honor of my favorite time of year, I thought I'd bring you another Cheryl's Greatest Hits featuring seven ways to wear one of my favorite wardrobe workhorses, the leather moto jacket. As longtime Cheryl Shops readers know, I bought this Banana Republic moto jacket several years ago when I worked at Gap headquarters, and while I can't always advocate for Banana's clothes, this jacket is one of the best items they make, which explains why they keep bringing it back season after season. They have miraculously not raised the price since I bought mine—it's still $499, although you can usually get it on sale (never pay full price for anything at Banana!)—the leather is buttery soft, and the thing fits like a glove. A good leather jacket is totally worth the investment and you'll have it for years, so without further ado, here are seven ways to wear it.

With a maxi dress

This is the most recent look I've featured, and while it's a little dramatic, I like how the sneakers keep things more casual.

With jeans and a blouse

This falls into oldie-but-goodie territory. It's a pretty simple look—a twist on the classic jeans and a white shirt combination—but the pops of blue give it personality.

With a sparkly skirt

I freaking love this skirt, and obviously Isabel Marant does too, because she brought it back for another season. Expect to see most of these pieces back for another spin this year.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Banana Republic moto jacket | Nadaam sweater (similar here) | Etoile Isabel Marant skirt | Chloe Susanna boots

With wide-leg trousers

I love the contrast of the edgy moto jacket with the fluid, tailored look of these wide-leg trousers (which have been sadly languishing in my closet recently).

OUTFIT DETAILS: Banana Republic moto jacket | Everlane Air tee | ASOS pants | BP clutch (similar here) | Sam Edelman boots (similar here

With a casual skirt

I realize this outfit might not look super casual, but this skirt is a super soft cotton twill and thus is a little more on the laid-back side (although I styled it with heels to dress it up, à la Parisienne),

OUTFIT DETAILS: Banana Republic moto jacket | Zadig & Voltaire tee (similar here) | APC skirt (similar here) | APC sac demi-lune | Christian Louboutin heels

With skinny jeans

This outfit was an homage to one of my style icons, Kate Moss. It's definitely more rocker-y than I usually dress, but I liked playing the part.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Banana Republic moto jacket | Anine Bing Ramona sweatshirt (current season here) | H&M super skinny jeans | APC sac demi-luneAcne Pistol Boots

With a leopard-print dress

This is a very San Francisco outfit: part summer, part fall, and kind of confusing overall (but that's okay). Ganni keeps coming out with a version of this dress every season, and while leather and leopard print sound like a lot, they're just so good together.
