Cynthia Steffe Spring 2010

Where & When: Friday, September 11th at 9 a.m., the Salon, Bryant Park
Runway Recap: There has been much debate over what, in these recessionary times, will get women shopping again, but the consensus is, to paraphrase the famous Marshall Field, give the woman what she wants. And I bet a lot of women will want nearly everything that came down the runway at the Cynthia Steffe show: pretty pastel-hued dresses and softly draped tops, with great-looking trench coats (from cropped to full-length) and metallic fabrics sprinkled throughout. Oh, and ruffles everywhere. The truth is, (most) women want to feel feminine, and if sugary-sweet--but very well done--clothes like these don't inspire ladies to whip out their credit cards next spring, then only a miracle can save the retail industry.
Standout Look: The airy, floral-print dress with its tiered drop-waist skirt pretty much screams "SPRING!" but while the cropped, draped jacket's unexpected lavender hue is also exciting, it's in a more mellow, even-keeled way. Now don't you totally want a cropped lavender motorcycle jacket for spring?
Bonus Points: The happy, breathy music--"Little Bit" by Lykke Li and "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" by Saint Etienne--was perfectly suited to the happy, breathy clothes.
